Toe Alignment Splint FAQs

What are toe splints?2023-08-07T11:14:35-04:00

Toe splints are devices designed to aid in proper toe alignment and relieve the discomfort associated with toe misalignment. Bunions are one of the most common examples of toe misalignment. To learn more about bunions, click here.

What are the uses for toe alignment splints?2023-08-04T11:31:12-04:00

Toe splints can be used for a variety of reasons. Some of the more common use cases include:

  • Bunion correction and toe realignment: Bunions are a common toe condition in which the big toe is turned inward, causing the base of the big toe to point outward. For people experiencing bunions, toe alignment splints can provide gentle correction of the alignment of the big toe or prevent further misalignment of the big toe joint. For people who experience pain as a side effect of their bunions, toe alignment splints may also provide relief.
  • Post-Surgical Stabilization and Positioning: After surgery for a bunion or hammertoe correction, your surgeon may place you in a toe alignment splint to ensure the corrected toes stay aligned until they are fully healed. Whether or not a toe alignment splint is appropriate after your surgery is a decision that must be made by your doctor. Some surgeries benefit from splint stabilization, while others require alternate methods of toe splinting. We recommend speaking with your physician before applying any toe alignment splint post-surgery.
  • Bunion Prevention: If you notice a bunion in the very early stages of development, a toe alignment splint may be an appropriate solution for gently correcting toe alignment before a bunion or other toe condition is fully formed. Able to be worn while sleeping, toe alignment splints provide an easy way for people to proactively combat bunion formation while resting.
